#5 Cocktail hour!

My Flickr exercise was interesting to say the least! I followed the instructions and created a Yahoo account, one I'll probably never use as I already have a work and home email account. I thought I would browse Flickr by selecting the Explore option. I've learnt that Flickr is a photo sharing website where people can upload and share their photos online but I wasn't quite prepared to see very friendly images being shared (Pornography images). As interesting as it all was, that was the beginning and the end of Flickr for me. Thank you Christian(Carp diem: fish of the day) for creating a document on linking images from Flickr to your blog. I now know what Flickr is and how it kind of works which is my main goal in learning Library 2.0 - to become more familiar with the changing technology and changing needs of library users.

Hi Scarlett (Now I know who you are!)

About that pornography. i had the same problem I typed dogs and a VERY rude picture came up. I nearly went blind, not good for the old ticker either.

Flickr monitors the photos that are uploaded, and you are able to contact them if a photo offends you. I hope if it was offensive that you, as a community member; reported it to them.

If your read the Flickr conditions at the bottom of their webpage you will see what actions are taken regarding offensive photos.

As with anything that is community orientated (another example is Wikipedia) their is a level of monitoring, but some things slip through. This happens with any web page. Occasionally we find a webpage that wasa once a siutable site to catalogue, has change to something unacceptable because someone else has bought the rights to use that URL.
It is all a learning experience...
